Harvesting: original experiences in Rhone Valley vineyards
Every year, as soon as the grapes reach full maturity, the vineyards are in full swing. What if this was the ideal opportunity to visit these sites in a different way, and experience the pleasure of the harvest? For a day or a weekend, several estates in the Rhône Valley welcome us directly into their vineyards and wineries to experience this crucial period in a winemaker's life up close.

Château Pesquié: discover the grape harvest and biodynamic viticulture at the foot of Mont-Ventoux
For this first idea for an activity, we'd love to spend a morning in the vineyards of Château Pesquié, at the foot of the impressive Mont-Ventoux, listening to a passionate winemaker talk about the secrets of biodynamic viticulture. It all begins with an outdoor immersion to discover the particularities of the vineyards and gardens that surround us, as well as the history of the estate and the specificities of the Ventoux appellation. Everything is done to immerse you in the entire world of wine, while soaking up the atmosphere of the harvest. There are no lectures here: we observe, discuss, smell the earth and the grapes still warm from the sun.
Then it's off to the winery and cellars for a sneak preview of how the grapes begin their magical transformation. Vinification and ageing techniques will no longer be unfamiliar to us, especially after tasting the fermenting juices directly from the vat - a rare moment. At the end of the visit, it's time for a more relaxed tasting session, accompanied by some timely local delicacies.
The little extra: the possibility of extending the experience with a picnic at the estate (basket for two to share). The setting is ideal for a quiet gourmet break.

Domaine de Grangeneuve: the art of harvesting... and eating well in the Drôme
At Domaine de Grangeneuve, in Roussas, we don't do things by halves. On this wine estate in the Drôme region, the harvest is a big deal: seven whole hours of living the life of a winegrower, from harvesting the grapes to the well-deserved team meal. In the morning, it's all about the effort: cutting the ripe bunches, filling the buckets and feeling (literally) the weight of the work in the vineyard. No need to be an expert, the team is there to accompany us and explain the right gestures to adopt.
What's next? We head for the cellar, to witness the metamorphosis of the grapes. We taste the musts still fermenting, discuss the choice of ageing methods and discover the aromas that develop in the barrel. To round off this wonderful interlude, a winemaker's meal awaits us in the shade of century-old oak trees. A convivial atmosphere is guaranteed, with typical local dishes, wine tasting of Grignan les Adhémar appellation and passionate discussions.
What we like: a complete experience, from vineyard to plate, with a caring team and an authentic atmosphere.

Clos du Caveau: harvesting in the heart of nature in the Dentelles de Montmirail massif
Looking for a nature getaway with a hint of adventure? Head for Clos du Caveau, in Vacqueyras, where the grape harvest takes place in an exceptional setting in the heart of the Dentelles de Montmirail. Put on your comfortable shoes and follow the grapes from the plot to the winery.
What sets this experience apart is the perfect balance between education and practical application. You'll learn how to harvest the grapes, discover the different stages of winemaking and enjoy the breathtaking scenery. The experience ends with a winemaker's picnic shared with the domaine's team - an opportunity to celebrate this beautiful morning and the forthcoming 2025 vintage of AOC Gigondas or Vacqueyras!
Practical tip: the estate offers this activity every day between September and October (depending on the harvest period). Ideal for planning an impromptu yet fascinating outing!

Taking part in the grape harvest is more than just picking grapes: it's entering a world apart, understanding ancestral gestures, feeling the richness of the terroir and living a unique collective experience. Each of these three estates offers a different approach to this essential stage in the wine-making process, but all share the same passion.
And between two strokes of the pruning shears, you'll find yourself slowing down, breathing and savoring. In short, to experience wine differently. So, are you ready to swap your best shoes for those of a winemaker?
