An exceptional wine-growing terroir in the heart of the Rhône hills
In the Northern Rhône Valley, the vines reveal the richness of ancient granite, clay, and stony soils, carried by steep slopes and worked since ancient times. The vineyard covers more than 4,000 hectares, divided between seven appellations d'origine contrôlée (AOCs). The Syrah, Viognier, Marsanne, and Roussanne grape varieties, which thrive in this vineyard, reflect the expression of a unique terroir. The strength of Syrah can be felt in the deep and refined reds, the distinctive aroma of Viognier in the whites, and the mineral finesse of the Marsanne-Roussanne blends.

The major appellations of the Northern Rhône Valley
Each appellation tells a story. Côte-Rôtie, ancient and prestigious, the work of the Allobroges and terraced by the Romans, mainly grows Syrah with a touch of Viognier to bring suppleness to the reds. Condrieu, full of grace, produces rare whites exclusively from Viognier on meticulously worked granite slopes. Crozes-Hermitage, the largest AOC in the northern Côtes-du-Rhône, seduces with its variety of soils, including rounded pebbles, kaolin, and granite, and offers fruity reds and floral whites. Added to this are the Saint-Joseph and Hermitage AOCs, emblematic signatures of this terroir in the northern Rhône Valley. Not to mention the Cornas appellation, which produces only red wines of rare intensity, reflecting the Syrah grape, and the Saint-Péray appellation, which produces exclusively fresh and elegant white (and sparkling) wines. Together, these wines form a unique mosaic, both historic and resolutely contemporary.

Discover and enjoy life in the Northern Rhône Valley
Beyond its cellars and vineyards, the Northern Rhône Valley invites us to enjoy a complete wine tourism experience. You can let yourself be carried away by festive events such as Rendez-Wine, which offers a variety of activities throughout the vineyards. Gourmet hikes, winegrowers' brunches, jazz concerts, and vineyard aperitifs enliven the region from May to September, much to our delight. Not to mention the destination's other highlight: the Vignobles en Scène event, held every year on the third weekend of October, which offers banquet dinners in unexpected locations.
To take things further, the Détours en Vignes app offers immersive self-guided tours around the Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage, Saint-Joseph, Cornas, and Saint-Péray appellations, with anecdotes and cultural discoveries.
And then there is the heritage: the medieval streets of Vienne, hilltop villages such as Malleval, the famous Hermitage hill, the suspension bridges and castles that dot the landscape... All of this combines to make this destination a rich and generous region, recently recognized by the Vignobles & Découvertes label and bringing together nearly 250 passionate professionals from wineries, restaurants, accommodation providers, and tourist sites.
