A destination with distinctive terroirs

Vines have grown here since antiquity, and it was also here that the first wine barrels were branded with the mark "C.D.R."—making the Côtes du Rhône region in the Gard the true cradle of the Côtes du Rhône appellation.

The soils here are diverse, lending great character to the wines they produce. The Tavel appellation, for instance, was the first French AOC dedicated to rosé. Meanwhile, the Lirac AOC was the first *cru* within the Côtes du Rhône to offer wines in all three colors. And while the Chusclan area—part of the Côtes du Rhône appellation—is primarily known for its rich, supple, and generous red wines, it has also earned a fine reputation for its remarkable rosés.
