The history of the vineyard
The southernmost vineyard of the Rhône Valley
Located on the right bank of the Rhône, the Costières de Nîmes is the southernmost vineyard in the Rhône Valley. Its plateau, which stretches for some forty kilometers, offers an expansive panorama: Nîmes to the north, with the Cévennes and the foothills of the Alps on the horizon; to the south, the lagoons of the Camargue and, further off, the coastline. Vines have been a part of this landscape since antiquity—first introduced by the Greeks, and later developed and expanded by the Romans.
The Costières de Nîmes region is home to a wealth of treasures to discover during a stay of one or more days. From the rich history of the city of Nîmes and various walking or cycling routes to a year-round calendar of festive events, there is no shortage of things to do.
